THREATENING MESSAGES NEW YORK, January 27. Mary Pickford, according to a United Press dispatch' from Falniouth, Massachusetts, is secluded, there undor a heavy: guard after hurriedly leaving Boston to escape threatened kidnapping. • " Sho said she received six threatening notes and three telephone calls. She doclinod to reveal details, but spoke vaguely of foars that her enemies would ■use hypnotism to take her prisoner. She said that a young couple had repeatedly tried to soo her, first at a theatre in Now York, then at a hotol in Boston, wishing to give her mysterious important papers. She belioves this is a ruse to kidnap'hen , _Tho authorities are inclined to think if the work of cranks, lout are nevertheless taking precautions. '
