MERCHANT DISAPPOINTED

RETURNING TO AUSTRALIA

(Received January 27, 2 p.m.)

NEW YORK, January 26,

Mr.' Gordon Coulter, director of Stephen King, , Melbourne, who- .has been surveying the possibilities of an Australian wine and. spirits trade with America, has informed the Australian Press that he is returning, immediately. His, decision is due to, the seemingly interminable delay of the Administration at Washington in granting Australia an import quota. . .'• '

Mr.'Coulter; expressed regret and disappointment that Australia had- no opportunity to do business, while French and Italian goods were flooding the market. He said that dealers and hotels were favourably impressed' with the samples «f Australian liquors and were eager; to place orders if a • quota we're available. ' •

"Each day that the quota is delayed Australia is placed at a greater disadvantage in a market that presents an .enormous opportunity for wines and spirits," said Mr. Coulter. ; '
