SENTENCING OF COMMUNISTS

When the Communists . were being sentenced for the murder of Maikowski and a police sergeant, the Storm Troopers' protests developed into scenes unparalleled in the history of the German Courts. When the sentences began with terms of seven years the Brown Shirts shouted loudly,. •"Shameful. Down with the Judge." The climax was reached when the leader, addressing the Judge, yellad, " We want justice for murderers. The verdict is shameful." The Judge ordered the officials to clear the galleries, but the Brown Shirts resisted, the result being a free fight with the police until they were ejected. ""■■..
The Judge suspended the sentences for an hour, during which the Brown Shirts vigorously protested to the Prussian Minister of Justice. When he resumed the State . Secretary, Dr. Freisler, appeared in Court, • and, ignoring him, addressed the Storm Troops, who had reassembled on one side, to the effect, "Let us hear the Court's decision, but the Minister will examine the case, and any future action will rest on his decision."
