FOB EGMONT MEETING
WORK OF HAWERA HORSES
(Special from "Limited.")
HAWERA, This Day.
There is every indication that the Egmont Racing Club's Summer Meeting, commencing next Thursday, will be a successful one. Good-class horses are engaged,: the course at present is in firstclass order, and keen competition is confidently expected.
At a special meeting of the committee to consider betting systems it was resolved to retain the win-and-place system for the meeting.
The Hawera horses to run are in forward racing condition, and in the hack classes " especially they promise, to make amends for defeats suffered rouud the Christmas meetings. Hound Table, Oriel, Taitoru, and St. Clara are a quartet that have made definite improvement and look likely to keep outside opposition busy. '.■..'.
, Peter Jackson is rapidly approaching racing form, and he is looking and galloping well. His next work-out will be watched with interest.
The Egmont Cup candidate Aga Khan accomplished a smart gallop over a mile on Thursday morning. Starting smartly with Diagano he reached the half-mile in 51 l-ssec. Diagano was pulled off here and Aga Khan finished up his mile in good style in lmin 43sec, one of the best efforts over the journey performed on the Hawera track this season.
Carfex has freshened up and is to be galloped at the weekend. He has been doing his pace work attractively and looks in nice order. •■_.-.-.
J. Fryer's luck still continues out. March Alone* case looks hopeless for some time to come. Singer is. lame, and Green Linnet is likely to be off the scene till the winter. '
Gibraltar suffered a severe fall in the Wellington Cup and could not be started again at the meeting. ; Round Table justified the good opinion held .of him by scoring decisively at Trentham, and further successes can be looked for from him. He has all along given the impression of staying on over a bit - of ground.
Taitoru is in great heart and is considered leniently treated in the Nolan Handicap, in, which race he can be depended on to keep the opposition very busy. ~'.'"
Debut was a disappointment at Trentham. The long straight found him out, but he. may make.amends nearer home.
Silver Wings, the two-year-old halfsister to Inflation, is making good progress and sprinted three furlongs on Thursday morning attractively in 36 .1-5 sec. Another.youngster that is coming to hand rapidly is. the Chief Ruler—Rosie Desmond filly, who will race under the name of Rose Day. Better looking than her full relative Just So, this one. looks sure to-prove useful and to reward her trainer' R. Brough for'his patience.
St. Clara is a genuine mare and runs ■consistently. Her track work is impressive arid-she is moving well in her work. In a gallop with Richfield over five furlongs 'she won decisively in lmin 4sec.
The Tiger has been doing a lot of steady pace. work but was galloped half a mile during the week, registering So%sec for the 'journey. He is nicely placed in .the Flying Handicap next Thursday,,arid a return, to form would entitle him .to respect. No Doubt has been doing steady work during his trainer's absence, but a couple of'smart gallons'will .tune him up for his five-furlong engagements, . ■*■ : The Diacquehod—Lady Bentinek yearling belonging to Mr. G.F. Moore was Jfiot sold -at the'sales'this- week, and O. ; Cox will now-probably prepare him for racing; '■: ," . ■ ■■ ■■■■ : .•:..-■ '
