A RECENT FIRE
TRIBUTE TO THE BRIGADE
Appreciation of the speedy manner in which the fire last week on the premises of Messrs:1 Armstrong arid Springhall, Ltd., was got under control by the Fire Brigade, under Superintendent Woolley, was expressed in a letter from the managing director of the company read at the meeting of the Fire Board today. "Unfortunately I was not here at the outbreak of the fire," wrote the managing director, "but members of my staff tell me that, when they connected with the brigade, by telephone it did ■ not look possible for the fire to be; prevented from spreading,to other parts of the building. I am also advised that it was only a matter ofv seconds from the timq the telephono call, was put through to. the arrival of the brigade. Through their promptness the fire was confined to a section of our, store only, thus saving us a great deal, because if the fire had got a hold on the showroom and offices the loss to us at the present time would have been very serious."
The letter, also mentioned tljat the company desired ,to make a. contribution to the brigade funds in recognition of its services.
