SWIMMING AT BRISBANE

BRISBANE, January 24. The Australian swimming championships, which r commenced tonight, are vested with an international flavour by the appearance, in addition to competitors from all States except Tasmania, of the Hawaiian, Kalili, and .' Miss Joyce Cooper, England, who today flew from Lismore. Kalili, in winning tho 220 yards race, broko by one-fifth of a second tho Queensland record of 2min 21 4-ssee, made by the Japanese, K. Takaishi, at Ipswich, in 1926. Kalili is ineligible for tho title. Miss Joyce Cooper finished, first in the women's 220 yards race, clipping two-fifths of a second off the Australian record of 2min 45 2-ssce made last year by Miss Frances Bult,' and 11 2-sscc off tho 13-year-old Queensland record, held by Miss E. Bleibtrey, U.S.A. Results are:— I 100 Yards Junior.—R. Oliver (Western Australia), lj K. Graham (N.S.W.), 2; H. Sanderson (Queensland), 3. Timo, 60 1-Sscc. 220 Yards.—A. Crawford (N.S.W.). 1; R. Clark (N.S.W.), 2; V. Tremble (Queensland), 3. Time, 2min 27 2-ssec.
