HAZARDS OF FORTUNE

SILVER RING'S COMEBACK

The dual success of Silver Ring at the recent Wellington Meeting must have set many racing men thinking of late owner, Mr. Don ,Fraser; who met such a tragic fate lust November.

The late Mr. Fraser took great pride in the two-year-old deeds of Silver King, and several big offers found him unwilling to part with his favourite. When the chestnut failed as a three-year-old to regain form, Mr. Fraser showed great patience, and never wavered in his belief that the gelding would come back. His faith has been justified, but he was not permitted to live to see it.

As a two-year-old Silver Ring won five races and was second twice in eleven starts. In the spring of his three-year-old season he was taken to Sydney. He hud five starts there, running badly in the first three. Then he was second in the AJ.C. Shorts and fourth in the CJibborn Stakes. Taken home again, his only placing in seven,.,starts was a third at Motukarara. • :

This season he began by running unplaced twice at the C.J.C. ■■ Grand National Meeting. He "was hot produced again until December 16, wlien he ran a promising fifth in the' Racecourse Hill Handicap, seven furlongs, at the Hororata Meeting. His win in the' President's Handicap, at Oamaru on January 2. and his successes at Trentham have followed.

In all the four-year-old has started 29 times for eight wins, three seconds, one third, and 17 times unplaced. In stakes he has won £1921. It was at-Trentham two years ago that Silver Ring scored his maiden success in the Fitzherbert Handi-: cap. ■•'■■;''■■ . '
