CHEMISTS' INSTITUTE
ANNUAL MEETING
The annual meeting of the New Zealand Section of the Institute of Chemistry of Great Britain and'-Ireland was held last night. Mr. W. Donovan presided. The annual report, which was adopted, stated that in accordapce with a resolution passed at the previous annual meeting, the South African. and Malay sections w«re asked whether they would be prepared to act with the New Zealand section in requesting the council, to increase the annual grants to overseas sections. A reply had been received. from the South African section stating that it was prepared to act with the New Zealand section, but the Malay section stated that it did not feel the need of an increased allocation. The meeting' instructed the incoming committee to endeavour to obtain a greater share of the funds.
Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows:—Chairman, Mr! G. A. Lawrence (Wellington); hon. secretary ' and treasurer,1 Mr. P. White (Wellington): committee, Mr. F. H. V. Fildes (Auckland), ! Messrs. A. D. Monro, M. L. H. Stewart, and Dr. G. M. Moir . (Wellington), Mr. E. W. Hullett (Christchurch), and Professor J. H, K.lnglis (Dunedin). Mr. Donovan's presidential address was on the subject of obtaining petrol from New Zealand coals, and is reported under a separate heading. ■ Today's proceedings took the form of a number of short papers on the relations, between chemistry and industry, and a visit is being made to some porcelain enamelling works. ■' ' ■
