HAWKC'S BAY RAM FAIR

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) 1 . HASTINGS, January 25. Th« higheet rates for;..the ,past' three seasona were realised at the first day of the Hawke's Bay ram fair held at Hastings today. In Eomney flock rams an advance' of from 50:t6 75 per cent.*was recorded according to quality, while the few Lincolns and Corriedales which were offered also appreciated to a considerable degree. A total of 3148 Komney one, two,, and three-shear flocks rams 56 one and twoshear. Lincolns, and 18 one and. two-shear Corriedales was ..offered, the range of prices being as follows: — Komney: One-shear, to 18 guineas; twoshear, to 7% guineas; three-shear, to 4 guinea*. ■; ; ■ ' Lincoln: Two-shear, to 3% guineas. G'orriedale: Two-shear, to 9 guineas. A special Komney entry of one-shear rams made to 27 guineas.

Value*, remained at the improved rate throughout the course of the day's selling, the bulk o£ the entry of 3212 flock rams being disposed* of. Buyers -were present from Hawke's Bay and Poverty Bay, while venders' entries came from Rangiora in the south, to Hamilton in" the north. , ' : . -;

Local venders; did not figure in the higher-priced gales, these being chiefly on account of Manawatu and Wairarapa venders, and the* auctioneers expressed their satisfaction with the prices realised, this being taken as a good augury for a swing back to sheep farming in ■> the Hawke's Bay and Poverty Bay districts.

"The improved prices show that sheepfsrmeris .are confident in the future," was the opinion expressed by one auctioneer and echoed by others.
