ROYAL AMPHORA.- SCORES Koval1 Amphora landed a coup for his 'connections' ?n'd a setback for the public in the Kaitole Handicap. Only Lady Nan was ahead of hint when they reached the course proper] and after disposing of this filly lie comfortably withstood challenges flora Hunting Lodge (fence) and Dombey (outside) to score by a head and a neck. He is a six-year-old Tea Tray gelding who has never been too sound, but when right he; has a.full torrent of speed. He is owned iby Mr. E. Sutherland, of North Canterbury, and he is trained^at Islington, five; or six miles from Riccavton, where he does his final galloping. ; Hunting Lodge, was always if airly well placed on the tail, and with her main run leseived she finished fast to gain second mono}. Domley, a hot favourite, over Uvice as well backed as anything else to win, was amoiig the leaders over near the fence ahead of Hunting Lodge till they 1 cached the straight, but he then ran out on the track tnd finished down the outride to gain ihird money. He came home stiongjy, but "never looked like reaching the dinner. Phcon was also running on louitli, but Lafly Nan again weakened out |of Ihe places.. ■' The best of the others were Sunny Maid, Highbrow (who might have been in the monpy if ho had not nude lii-3 effort too soonV'My Idea!, and Bay Area. Debut again failed completely after being prominent for half the trip. Araulinc was left at the start.
