WEST COAST TOURNEY

(By I'elegrapli.— I'ress Association.) WESTPOKT, January 24. The West Coast tennis championships commenced at Westport today under beautiful conditions. The presence' of competitors from tiie Canterbury district, includ. ing H. Dyraond, last year's champion, and competitors from' Motueka, Greyinouth, and Bul]er district, added interest to the tournament. ■ . c Sixty games were decided, and some brilliant tennis witnessed at times by a large crowd. The titje-holders, Dymond and Mies N. Costello/of Gteymouth, won their games convincingly," but P. Warnes (Greymouth) extended the former. The tournament concludes on Friday. Paterson and Rear, of Greymouth, and Forde- (Christchui'ch), played well, and should be the semi-finalists, while Miss Costello ' seems assured of retaining her title.
