RAILWAY CONTRACT
SECURED BY BRITAIN
The British Trade Commissioner in New | Zealand (Mr. L. A. Paish) has been advised that a.£2,000,000 Polish railway elec--1 trification contract has been signed between two United Kingdom firms, English Electric Company, Ltd., and Metropolitan^ Tickers Electrical Export Company, Ltd., and 'the Polish Under-Secretary of State to.-tho Minister of Finance. In the contract provision is made for the supply and erection of a large quantity of railway material comprising locomotives, motor coaches, overhead line equipment, and sub-station plant, and includes the necessary finance for certain civil engineering work associated with this electrification. The negotiations covered a considerable period, and the successful culmination of these efforts is the result of the co-ordina-tion and co-operation between the Prudential Assurance Company and the British Overseas Bank and the contractors,, the j English Electric Company,! Ltd., and the Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Export Company, Ltd. This contract follows earlier contracts placed with the English Electric Company, Ltd., for generating plant, and attendant switchgear for three power stations, for the installation of the Warsaw Suburban Tramways and for the electrification of the existing tramways in the Dombrowa Basin. ..■-.. ». ■- : ■ .
