CLUB NOTES
The Wellington Club, had a meeting recently, at which it .was decided to hold the annual korero at Athletic Park on November 4. Ladies' and men's training contests are to be held throughout the season, commencing oil November 9, and a medal will be awarded in each section to the*, member with the most points. It was decided to write to the Wanganui Club, inquiring when it will bo convenient for the club to send a team to Wellington and asking the Wanganui Club to suggest a date for the return visit by a team from Wellington Club. For the purpose of giving advice to the pupils, *visits are to be mado by members of the club this season again to St. Patrick's College (Silverstreain) and Scots College. Members of the club are also willing to coach St. Patrick's College boys at Prince of Wales Park. Mr. C. M. Brown, secretary of the Olympic Club, advises that the official opening of t^e club is to take place at Athletic Park on Thursday next at 5.'30 p.m. The club's patron, Mr. H. Glover, will officially declare the' season open, and as the function offers a splendid opportunity for new-comers to meet fellow-members; and become acquainted with the club's officers, everyone interested is asked, to make a special endeavour to be present. The Athletic Club's opening day is to be held at Eona Bay. on Sunday, November 5, members leaving by tho 9 o'clock boat. Commenting on the 'good start made, an official of the club stated that it was hoped members would continue to do' well ■ that this, the club's twenty-fifth anniversary, might be a record year. Ho said that the Misses Gilmour, Flan, Simpson, and Oughton' were the makings of a good relay team their baiton-changing on Monday being quite good for a first attempt. R. Coombes, he suggested, would be better advised to try the shorter distances. Disley appeared tp him to be showing signs of staleness, and his advice was that this young riders should take a spell. The Petone Club promises to have a successful season. Most of last season's performers are again taking tho field, and 31 new members have joined up. It ■is a little early to assess the possibilities of many of the beginners yet, but there is evidence of some useful material. Key. O'Connell, late of the Hutt Club, has signified his intention of linking up, and no doubt will make things interesting with Hamilton, Crooks, and Co. the ladies' section will be much stronger, several of the new runners showing much promise in their training. The cycling section has shown the greatest increase, and should do well. The club is fortunate in tho interest taken by the public at the weekly evening meetings. This interest is keenly appreciated by members. The Kiwi Club, like other athletic clubs, is, at the beginning of the season, experiencing a shortage of active members who are in form, due no doubt to the close proximity of the State examinations. H. T. Robinson, who won the 100 yds off 9yds, is a new member. Both Miss Murray and Miss Watson were well below form and were never in the hunt. Training commenced at the Basin Reserve on Tuesday. Members are asked to avail themselves of facilities provided. Referring to the fact that the cycling section of his club was larger this season, a' club official Btated this week that it would bo a pity if, in settling tho dispute over the control of the sport, many of the riders were penalised aiid driven, out of the game.
