GENERAL NOTES
Those swimmers who looked forward to enjoying the benefits of sea and sun during last weekend were sadly disappointed. Conditions were decidedly wintry and the various bathing resorts were almost deserted. As a contrast, a carnival held at Dunedin was a big success —another result of having the necessary facilities. J. Blakeley, holder of all the centre free-style championships, may not be on hand to defend his titles owing to his absence in the South Island for the major portion of the season. As, however, his occupation may permit stays in Christchurch" and Dunedin, it ia almost sure that he will take every opportunity of making an early start in training, and should the local championships fit in with his possible return to "Wellington he is certain to be a starter. Miss Jean Taylor, who was prominently connected with ladies' swimming in Dunedin, is now residing jn Wellington, and should she elect to again bo associated with the sport she will be a valuable acquisition to the local Ladies' Club. She has accomplished some meritorious • performances in distance 'swimming in Otago, and, in addition, was a splendid worker in the interests of tho clubs in which she took an active part.
