DEBUTANTE DANCE

LOVELY DECORATIONS

350 GUESTS ENTERTAINED

Thousands of balloons fluttered from the ceiling of the- ballroom at Kirkcalclie and Stains last evening, and formed a swaying canopy of vivid colour over tho heads of tho dancers, who wero the guests of Mr. and- Mrs. W. Morton Paterson, at a dance given'in honour of their daughter, Miss Mary Paterson. Lovely flowers in bewildering variety decorated the ballroom, tho entrance of which represented a' comer of a garden, flowering shrubs and hothouso plants being banked in all the corners. High on the walls were great clusters of rhododendron, azalea, yellow kowhai, pelargonium, pink and white broom and blossom, while on lower tables were bowls of choice roses and maidenhair fern. More lovely flowers decorated the supper-room, where supper was served continuously throughout the evening. Another popular spot was the punch bowl, a large square glass bowl embedded in giant blocks of ice, through which coloured lights shone. The three hundred and fifty guests wero received by Mr. and Mrs. Paterson, the latter wearing, a; handsome trained gown of black rnarocain, with square neckline edged with a ruching of black Chantilly lace. She carried a sheaf of lovely pink carnations. Miss Mary Paterson's charming debutanto frock- was made with full skirt composed of bands of finely embroidered ivory net and plain net, the bodice being mounted over rose pink with shoulder epaulettes of ivory taffeta lined with rose pink. She' carried a posy of pastel-tinted flowers. , Epi Shalphoon's orchestra, brought from Botorua for the occasion, provided excellent dance music . - .i '- SOME OF THE QUESTS.
