"PERFECT MACHINE"

M.C.C. TEAM'S VISIT

N.Z. COUNCIL REPORT

"Our cricketers and spectators were fortunate in seeing so perfect a cricketing machine fresh from its Australian successes, and no finer batting than Hammond's has ever been socjn in this country," states the'annual report of the New Zealand Cricket Council in referring to the visit to Now Zealand last season of the M.C.C. team, which played threo matches here on its way back to England. "The brief tour was a great success, and no former team from any country aroused so keen and general public interest. "Mr. Jarcline, Mr. Wyatt, and the joint managers of the team, Mr. Warner and Mr. Palairet, were always anxious and willing to help our cricket in every way, and their friendly eour-" tesy in agreeing to adjustments required by the shortness of the tour was gratefully appreciated by the management committee. Mr. Warner addressed several schools in the. centres visited by the team, and his kindly thought in doing so will not be forgotten by the boys who wero able to hear him. Arrangements wero made to enable tho members of the team to see as much of New Zealand as time permitted, and they so enjoyed their stay with us that i they hope, as we hope, that all future English Test teams to Australia will come to New Zealand after . the Australian tour is finished. j "Although the expenses were considerable, there, was a profit, most of which was distributed amongst the affiliated associations under the terms of a resolution carried at the July meeting of delegates. Tho council' is under a deep obligation to the M.O.C. and tho Australian Board of Control for agreeing to the tour at great inconvenience to both governing bodies. We are grateful also to tho English county committees who were good enough to do without the members of tho team for ono or two matches in tho first week of May to enable the tour to take place.' The report states that the financial result to the council of tho tour of the M.C.C. team was satisfactory in the circumstances. Delegates at tho last meeting of the council /adopted tho recommendation of the management committee and authorised tho distribution amongst all affiliated associations of the sum of £485 from the profits of the tour. ' VISITS FROM AUSTRALIA. It is recordod in tho report that, under instructions from the management committee, the chairman (Mr. A. T. Donnelly) went to Melbourne at New Year to intorviow the Australian Beard of Control on matters of common interest, and in particular to arrango for the resumption of visits of Australian teams to New Zealand, which have ceased since, the 1927-28 season.; "The chairman was most kindly received by. members of the board,'/ the report adds, "and the personal discussion of our problem with the board will undoubtedly be of great future benefit to our cricket. Tho board has accepted cur invitation to send a .team in February and March, subject to playing and financial conditions being satisfactory, and the management committee has now taken up negotiations with the board.''
