MARKED REDUCTION

(By Telegraph.—Press Association,) AUCKLAND, October 26. •'For the last two years firou in Now Zealand have shown a marked reduction as compared with the tremondous wastage by fires that have taken plaeo previously in the Dominion," remarked Sir Georgo Elliot at a meeting of the South British Insurance Company. "There can bo little doubt that this improvement may bo attributed to the greater care being taken to avoid preventable loss during the difficult times through which we aro passing," said Sir George. "It is indisputable that a vast amount of fire wastage lias been due to sheer carolossncss in one form or anothor."
