OTAKI HEALTH CAMP
SMITH FAMILY^ OFFER
The directors 6£ the Smith Family have written to the Children's Health Camp Association offering to take over the camp at Otaki during the school holidays at Christinas and utilise it to its full capacity If the offer is accepted the Smith Family will take immediate steps to raise the amount necessary to send a full complement of children to the camp as soon as the school year ends. The Family is also making arrangements with farmers and country dwellers to take children from needy families tor at least part of the school holidays. It is hoped that under this scheme at least I 1000 children will be placed in the country during the holiday period. Ine children selected will be medically examined, and only those with a clean bill of health will bo allocated to those who volunteer to take a child into their homes. It is -pointed out that not only will the health of children be materially benefited by a change in the country, but material economic assistance will be afforded to many parents whose Blender incomes at present, make it difficult for them_ to provide adequate nourishment for their children. In many cases investigated by the Smith Family it has been found that mothers have been denying themselves peccssary food in order that their children may not go hungry- Farmers and country folk who are willing to take a child, or children, for a week or more jn the school holidays are requested to advise the secretary of the Smith Family, 95 Wakofield Street, Wellington, telephone 42-322
The Victoria University College Council has accepted with thanks a further donation of twenty-threo volumes in the Italian language from Signor G. JTormichella.
