SCENE IN THE HOUSE
MEMBERS AT LOGGERHEADS
A misunderstanding between Labour members and the Government member for Waikato (Mr. F. Lye) gave rise to a lively scene in the House of Representatives early this morning. Mr. Lye said that he could not find suitable words to describe some of the speeches made by Labour members. If they went outside ho would tell them what he had in his mind. Mr. J. A. Leo (Labour, Grey Lynn): You are not game enough to carry out your threat. The Deputy Speaker (Mr. S. G. Smith) asked Mr. Leo to withdraw his remark. Mr. Lee: No, I have been threatened by the hoa. member. Mr. Smith: Order! I shall have to name the hon. member. Mr. Lee: If the hon. member went outside I would hit him on the nose. On being asked to withdraw, Mr. Lee said he would not do so, as Mr. Lye had imputed lack of courage to the Labour Party. Mr. Lye: I dfd not impute lack of courage. Subsequently, Mr. Lee agreed to withdraw his remark.
