THREE KILLED
CRASH OF AEROPLANE
RETURNING FROM FRANCE
■ (Received October 2, 1 p.m.) LONDON, October 1. A Percival Gull aeroplane, returning from the ElOl ceremony, crashed in a field at Sandhurst, near Hawkhurst, killing the pilot, Captain Styran, winner of the London-Cardiff air race and third in the King's Cup; lan MacGilchrist, chairman of the Air Na'yigation Company; owners of the aeroplane, Bertram Wilson, "Daily Sketch" photographer, who were returning with pictures of the ceremony, and whose parents were do ill that the breaking of the news to them had to be deferred.
The disaster is believed to have been due to the bad visibility, caused by misty rain. Eye-witnesses saw the machine, which had hitherto been invisible, but audible, nose-dive from the mist, overturn, and smash in -pieces, strewing wreckage over fifty yards and dreadfully ; mutilating the occupants. There was no fire despite the bursting of the petrol tank. Subsequently Mr. Mac Donald and his party traversed the' same route in an air liner unaware of the accident.
