The change-over from standard fares to day, half-day, and period excursion fares on tho British railways resulted, duj-ing the first half of the current year, in a considerable increase in passenger traffic. Passenger journeys made in the period-, excluding season ticketholders, totalled 524,738,215, representing an increase oi' 1,978,700 ou the corresponding period of 1932. Passenger, receipts during the first six months of this year, however, showed a slight decline. The total was £21,385,182,"being £101,278 below t*e total for the-; corresponding period of last year.'
