THE RAILWAYS" FUND
Expenditure of the Government Railways Superannuation' fund last year exceeded income by £76,185, according to the board's annual report, and the accumulated funds were reduced by £120,028. It was necessary to transfer £132,451 from the investment funds to current account. The Railway Department paid the fund a subsidy of £170,000, and interest earned amounted to £82,297. Allowances granted during tho year amounted to £26,199 and an annual liability of ~£ 445,371 -is involved for life allowances. The peak point of additional pensions ' was reached in the preceding year, when an additional annual liability of £143,807 was incurred. Allowances discontinued during tho year amounted to £11,542.
