"Colonial Ball" Cake Shop.

The first of a series of weekly "cake days" to be held at the "Old Colonial Ball" committee's headquarters, 338 iLambton Quay, will be looked after tomorrow by Mrs. T. C. A. Hislop, assisted by Mesdames .E. W. Kane, Jowett, B. B. Wood, MathewS, Hitchings, and Pow, Dr. Govr, and Miss Blair. Eecital at, Queen Margaret College. • A recital was given recently at Queen Margaret College before a large and appreciative audience of parents and frieiiids. Songs' were sung hy 'Mrs. Frieda .Shaw, accompanied by Mrs. b. W Fearn, and. violin duets were played. Ibv'Mr. and Mrs. Eric Meier, accompanied by Miss E. Walter. Headings, presented by Miss Wilson (principal), Mrs.'Arthur- Gray, Miss Betty Page, and Messrs, George Cooper and W. M. Page completed the programme. At the conclusion of the entertainment the president, Mr. O. C. Mazengarb, proposed a hearty vote of thauks to the performers. Supper was provided by the ladies of the committee. Alicetown Women's Club. The Alieetown Women's Club held a successful meeting recently, there being a good attendance. A bring and buy stall helped the club's funds considerably. Miss Dick sang two solos, the accompanist being Miss , Duncan. A competition, "The Nursery Rhynie Party," caused a good deal of amusement and was won cby Mrs. Gibson Young. It had been decided to form a dramatic circle. Thanks were given to Mrs. McArtney for a dinner wagon, which she has presented to the club. Tea was served, the hostosses being Mesdamcs Exton, Bathurst, Robinson, Hickling, and McDougall. Mrs. Gibson Young gave an interesting talk, her subject being "A Day in a Burma Household." She brought some curios of the country to show th.c members. A hearty vote of thanks was given to 'the. speaker. ■ ■• ■ ; ■ ' Wedding Celebrations. • Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Brooke-Taylor, 'Kilbirnic, gave au evening party recently to celebrate the wording of their daughter, Sybil Elsie, to Eugene 'Melnott, second son of Mr. and Mrs. J- H. Gill, of Eongotai. Tho guests .present included near relatives, among whom were:—Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Heginbotham, Mr. W. Brooke-Taylor, Mrs. H. V. Batten, and Misses P. J. and L. Batten, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Gill, and Miss J. Gill, Mr. and Mrs. Percy Eobr bie (Palmerston North), Mr. and Mrs. ;O. O. Sandlant, Miss D. Clark, Miss L. Ward, Mr. P. S. Binder, Messrs. J. and G. Gill, and M. and D. Heginbotham. The bride wore a floral pique voile frock, her mother was in green flowered marocain, and the bridegroom's mother in bottle-green marocain.
