BUILDING- SUBSIDY
GHE^KJNG APPLICATIONS
Ever since the date for: applications for the building subsidy undor the No. 10 scheme closed, . the Unemployment Board has been kept busy checking facts in connection. with the applications, and this will take some time yet. The Tush Of applicants which followed the announcement of the withdrawal of the subsidy after September 12 was such that now, over a fortnight after the closing date, there still remain many applications,to be dealt .with before the last one will be approved or otherwise. Apart from the checking up of the actual facts, as presented by the applicants, each property has to be inspected, and this takes time with the limited number, of inspectors available.
Those who are feeling anxious as to the stipulation that work must start within three' months, should realise that this period commences from the date of approval, and not from the date of application.' It was stated by the Unemployment Board today that the utmost possible expedition is being exercised in dealing with the applications, but that tho delay is unavoidable. The smaller centres' applications are in some cases nearing finality, but of those from the larger centres a considerable number remains to be approved.
