BARRAGE BROKEN
ATTEMPTED SETTLEMENT
(Received August 26, 2 p.m.) PAEIS, August 25. Directing a secretly-concentrated foreS of a hundred mounted police and forty; firemen equipped with four motorpumps and two tugs manned "by fifty; Bluejackets, the Prefect of the1 Seine-et-Oise Department, broke the barrage of three rows of barges at Gonflans. A' boarding party cut cables linking sixty, barges, which the tugs then towed to a backwater. Bargees assisted the tugs on the Prefect's promise to place their grievances before the Government. The Prefect now faces the problem of dispersing the main barrage at Eragno, where strikers threaten to fill their barges with cement and sink them ia. the Eiver Oise.
