WORLD GLUT OF WHEAT

(To the Editor.) Sir,—The cabled news has stated in bold type that delegates to the Wheat Conference, representing 29 countries, are staggered by a world glut of wheat which is dislocating estimates and "causing consternation in the consuming countries." This is, a bitter satire on the true position of consumers. No consternation about a glut of wheat would be caused if it were exported to India, where at least 200.000,000 human beings would rejoice. The huge Punjab and north-western provinces of India, Kashmir, and the whole of the Himalayas are wheat-eating lands. Rice is not the staple food anywhere save in the south. Millions of workers are unable to afford more than one meal a day, which consists chiefly of two or three wheaten cakes with vegetable curry. If the Deeds of the people of India, who form the majority of the population of the British Empire, were given just consideration, the whole of the wonder crop of wheat could be used for their benefit.—l am, etc., MARY GRAHAM.
