SATURDAY AFTERNOON

(Original.) On Saturday afternoon three college girls assembled on the top of the hill to discuss what they were going to do. "I know," P.iid Beryl. "Plow about, seeing who can jump the highest manuka bush? Come on." Away they scurried, jumping one bush after another, until they all fell in a bush gasping for breath. "I say," gasped Kathleen, "do you know who is at tho other side of that bush?" ■ "No," said the others. . ■ • "Well, there are two prefects!" said Kathleen. • Then dare-devil' Joan said: "I dare Kathleen to jump over that bush!" "All right," said Kathleen, "but wait; I'll tell you something." After a few minutes they all departed, going different ways. ■ ' '. ' A minuto later, a low whistle was heard, and Kathleen jumped, but as she jumped, Beryl let a spider slide down jthe'rieck: of one;of the prefects, who hastily pulled it away. But just, then she spied three girls, who instantly fled, with the prefects after them. The girls led them up hill and down dale until at last the prefects dropped down exhausted. Everything turned out all right, as the girls came back, each having put on jerseys to hide their frocks, and said', "You will never catch those girls, because they know every bit of bush; go how about having tea with us?" And the prefects, who had really enjoyed the fun, agreed. x "STAR-OF-THE-SEA" (12). City.
