LAST NIGHT'S FINALS
INTERESTING CLASSES
One of the most varied programmes in the "Wellington Competitions so far was presented in the Town Hall last night when the finals of fourteen classes •were hold. There was a satisfactory audience. Two of tho most charming items were tho dance duo and duet in character for children 12 and under 16. There were some very commendable vocal and elocutionary items. During his remarks at the conclusion of the programme Mr. ■J. V. Bailey, judge of elocution, stressed the necessity for keeping alive interest in the Competitions. They were tho only means 6f outlet, he said, for tho children 's feelings. Men, for instance, had debating clubs; children had nothing, The awards are as follows: — PIANO DUET, under 12, own selection. Peter Currle (Wellington), SO points 1 Grade McKay (Wadestown), 75 points .... 2 GIRLS' SONG, 14 and under 10, (a) "Deep In the Heart of a Rose" (Landon Ronald), (b) onn selection; first prize, the Winthorp Rogers special song medal. Miss Bond, 85 points „ 1 Miss Gamble, 83 points :..........'. 2 Dr. Jenkins said he would not forget the fine performance given by Miss Gamble in the preliminary- test. DUET IN CHARACTER, boys and/or girls, 12 and under 16, own selection; marks awarded for costume. Louie Compton and Eunice Scott, Wellington (."Rendezvous"), 00 points 1 Jean Ccrehl and Ngalre Miller, Wellington ("None so l'retty"), 79 points .... 2 Jean MacLnchlnn and Doris Bryce (Christchurch), and Ismay Mcllroy and Dorothy Bentley (Wellington) were the only other competitors. . In tho recitation ("Tho Ancient Faith"), clrls 12 and under 14, Dorothy Glensor (Island Bay) was very highly commended).
