SKINS AND HIDES PRICES UP
The usual fortnightly sale of sheepskins, hides, tallow, and sundries was held by the Wellington woolbrokers yesterday before a full bench of buyers. Competition was animated all. round, and exporters were more keenly interested in hides than at recent sales, bidding freely on the best lines of both cow and ox. Competition for well-grown and pelted skins was particularly active. Compared with the last sale, prices firmed from l-8d to %d per lb generally, while extra heavy ox and heavyweight kip sold at up to %d above the prices at the last sale. Sheepskins showed a general firming in values. The range of prices was as follows:— Dry sheepskins: Halfbred, 6Ud to 7%d; fine crossbred, 5%d to 7%d; medium crossbred, iVtA to 6%d; coarse crossbred, 3d to sd; half wools, 2%d to sd; quarter wools. l%d to -3%d; pelts, l%d to 2%d. Salted skins; Three-quarter wools, 2s 6d to 4s Cd; half wools, lOd to 4s 2d; hill wools, 4s 4d to 4s Od; lambs, Cd to 2s 9d. Hides: Ox, 331b to 441b 5d to 5%d, 451b to 521b 4 J/4d. to 6%d, 531b to 591b, 5y 4 d to 6%d, COlb to 691b 5 3-8 dto C 3-Bd, 701b and over 5%d to 6 5-8 d; cow, 331b to 391b, 4%d to 5 7-Bd, 401b to 481b, 4%d to 5 7-Bd, 491b and over 3d to s&d; kip, 251b to 321b 3%d to 7d, 171b to 241b 4d to 7%d; yearling, 111b to 161b, 4%d to 7?id; calf, 91b to 101b 7%d to 9d, 61b to 81b 11 5-8 dto 12 5-Srl, Hb to 51b ll'/ad to 12 3-Bd. Tallow: In casks, 14s 6d to 19s; in tins, etc., 10* to 12s. Horse-hair, ll%d per lb.
