COMMERCIAL BANK
A new site with ample depth of -141 ft aud a frontage of 50ft to Victoria Street, the main street of Hamilton, has just been acquired by the Commercial Bank of Australia. The manager in Wellington, Sir. E. P. Yaklwyn, was not prepared to disclose the price paid for the site beyond saying that it was substantial. The growth of the bank's business in the Waikato, he said, had made larger premises in Hamilton an imperative necessity. The section is vacant and is situated on the east side of Victoria Street between Collingwood and Ward Streets. It is the intention of the directors of the bank to erect modern and commodious premises at an early date; but plans have not yet been drawn for the building. The property was sold by the Public Trustee on behalf of the estate-of the late Mr. L. W. W. Brown, of Hamilton, who died about four years ago. The site was formerly occupied by a block of wooden shops, which Mr. Brown bought and had demolished. Tn 1932 Canadians consumed 56.021b beef, 0.971b mutton, 01.701b pork, or a total of 154.781b of meat per capita. This was over 201b per head more than that consumed in the United States. British South Africa Company ("Chartered") is to resume payment of dividends with an interim of 6d per share less •iax. ' ■• ■ -
