WOMEN'S INSTITUTES
OTAKI GROUP ENTERTAINS
Tho popularity of the Women's Institute movement was evidenced at the Cosy Theatre, Otaki, recently when tho Otaki Women's Institute held its first social. Despite the wet evening the hall was well filled. Mrs. White (president) made a brief speech, extending a hearty welcome to all present. Members of the institute then stood and sang the institute song, which was composed some time ago by Mrs. Jamos Bibby, of Waipawa. An autograph competition followed and was won by Mrs. A. Gallau and Mr. Alax Bills. Songs wero sung by Miss Molly Thompson, and also Miss W. Tahiwi who sang one of her own compositions. Two playlets wero* presented, those taking part being Mesdames Bishop, Savell, and Carroll, and Mesdames Chittick, Percival, Hausiaux, A. Bills', and Bishop. Tho second playlet, "The Imposter," was' produced .by Mrs. Bishop. ."■•■■■■ A ballet, "Rendezvous," was danced by ten girls who had been trained by Mrs. Rhodes, the early Victorian dresses worn, making a charming picture. Musical monologues were given by Miss Logclcn. Between tlio items, oid-timc dances wero thoroughly enjoyed, the music being played.' by Mrs. G. Gray. A delicious homo-mado supper was served by members of the institute. Tho arrangements, for tlio evening's programme wero made by Mrs. Synnott. Mrs. Bishop played the accompaniments and coached the members of the playrcading circle. Mcsclames Synnott and Coulter wore M.Cs., Mesdames Duncan and Evans, doorkeepers, and Mrs. Taylor and a- willing band of helpers.were in chargo of tho supper. .
