WET WEATHER PAYMENT

: The president of the Wellington Katepayers' Association (Mr. H.. H.--Miller) writes: —An endeavour has been made to show that objection was taken by a Labour councillor in May, 1922, to tKe discontinuance of payment to employees for time" lost owing to wet weather. The. following is a correct extract from. ..the council minutes of May 18,1922: '' Members of Wellington City Council, May, 1922—Mayor, R. A. Wright; councillors,. W. Hi Bennett, Burns, Chapman, Dale, Forsyth, Fraser, Gaudin, Luckie, McKenzie, McVicar, Norwood, Thompson, Underwood, H. D. Bennett, B. G. H. Burn. Extract from council minute -May 18, 1922: Clause 6 Finance Committee. That the reduction of 5s per week authorised by the' Arbitration Court be given effect to and that the officers be instructed to issue the necessary notices to the employees affected. Clause 7: That it bo an instruction to the City Engineer to discontinue, .payment to employees for time lost owing ■ to-wet weather. The Mayor nicrved "that" Clauses. 1 to 9 be adopted. Clause 6: Councillor Chapman moved that this clause be deleted. Lost. The clauses as moved by the Major were, then" adopted.

All members of the couneiFwere present at tho above meeting with the exception of Councillor Fraser, who was granted leave of absence.

It will be seen that no exception was taken to clause 7 dealing with payment for wet weather, and it was carried unanimously. This minute was' submitted at ;the next meeting-:, of the council and it was confirmed.
