HUTT BOWLING, TENNIS, AND CROQUET CLUB
The thirtieth annual report of the Hutfc: Bowling, Tennis, and Croquet Club is toy be presented to the annual general meeting >' on Thursday night. ' ' .The membership of the club is given in; the report as follows:—Bowling: Playing, £ 83; associate, 2; non-playing, 9. Tennis: '■ Playing, 65; non-playing, 1. Croquet: ' Playing, IS; non-jplaying, 10. In bowling, stated the report, the club ■• had entered for the Saturday and Wed- ?-: nesday pennants, and had played friendly-^ games against Victoria and against Wel-j-' lington for the Hamilton Cup, and in tha-K Duthie Cup match at Wanganui. The'S club had won .the banner in the-contest* with the Eastbourne Club, for the fourth. f time in succession had won the Presi-, dent's Cup against Petone,. and' the.Hutt ■ A ralley banner. Club representativel? played on Veterans' Day, in the match against the Manawatu Centre, in the Barnett Tiki match at Wellington, and in th.9 Dominion, Wellington centre, Hutfc Valley, Nelson, Blenheim, and Rotorua tournaments. Club competitions were won a» follows:—Champion rink: A.. Moore. W. Bock, J. Roper, H. L. Frasor (s).. Champion pairs: Messrs. H. G. Brooks and R. Y. Shearer (s). Champion singles: Mr. T. W. Plinn. Junior singles: Mr.' H. Hayes. The committee extended its sincere thanks to the president (Mr. W. E. Bock), and Mrs. Bock for their many act 3 of good will to the club. Appreciation was also expressed of the services'of Mr. J. Stonchouse, secretary for the past seven years. The report of the tennis section said, that the standard of play had beeii good, a. feature being the marked improvement.; in some of the junior members, particu-£ larly the ladies. Two teams were entered in the Hiitt Valley inter-club competitions, and though no championships were won,' the teams met with fair success, and their ' tennis improved. The winners of the club handicaps were as follows:—Gents' singles, I. Willi?; women's singles, Mrs. Liddle; combined doubles, N. Robinson arid R. Spencer; men's doubles, N. Robinson and. V. Murphy; women's doubles, G. Hadwin and R. Spencer. The committee expressed its appreciation of the work of Mr?. Upton and the lady members of the club,-, who arranged the afternoon tea every Saturday. . : ' In the croquet section the club expert enccd an ideal season, said the report. A special sports day ' was held, to commemorate the club's twenty-first birthday. The lawn was used for some of the events of the Dominion tournament,' in which Mesdames Bock. Jenness, and Parker represented the club. In the champion of champions contest, Mrs. Bock represented the A grade and Mrs. Wood th 3 intermediate grade. In inter-club games the club scored 450 out of a possible,' 572 in the A grade and 005 out of a possible 780 in the intermediate grade. The club trophy winners were:—Championship, A grade, Mrs. Bock; runner-up. Mrs. King. Intermediate championship, Mrs(._ Wood; runner-up, Mrs. Jenness. Handicap A grade, Mrs. Bock: runner-up, Mrs. Passmore. Handicap, intermediate, Mrs. Jenness; runner-up. Mrs. Yate?.. Thanks were given to Mr. Bock for his work as croquet representative, on the bowling ' committee.
