RELIEF WORKERS' EFFORT The relief workers of Miramar hava* shown in a practical manner a genuine*, endeavour towards self-help. A co-6pera«'V live club has been formed, ami a com-; mittee of men and women has beeiij elected from a representative meeting of ';■ relief workers. Each member subscribes' 1--2s Cd spread over a period of three weeks.j and the object of the club is to purchase? co-operatively any necessities which may,! be obtained at a cheap rate, while at tho/, same time the club spirit will be fostered"?-; by forming a library, holding social even—* in.es, etc. ■ Several residents have already given £ both goods and money, and the committee,1?' feels assured that donations of this kindgi: and also of books for the library will|" continue. Any money collected will be j. used to cheapen; "purchases by the mem-fi-bers. The effort has" the full "approval? of the Juter-church Relief Committee,;:and| two well-known citizens have guaranteed-' the club's ■ purchases.- . . .. . . The local tradesmen are supported asi, far as possible, and considerable . reduc-l' tions have already been obtained from,!- ( butchers, bootmakers, hairdressers, a den-s list, and a coal dealer,- and a bank has! offered to carry the account free. A de-1 j pot has been obtained, the owner giving« two weeks' rent free and a nominal rental afterwards.
