UNIVERSITY BEAT WESLEY

After a mediocre showing in the first half" University improved in the second spell and beat Wesley by 2 goals to 1. Wesley definitely had the better of the first lialf, and this was largely due to Freethy's direction in attack. He was the most outstanding player on the field. University played a good defensive game, but they seemed to have no finish in their attack. Wesley lost many opportunities through offside play. The half-time score was 1-nil in favour of Wesley, Freethy having scored about half-way through the first half. On the resumption, the students led the attack, and although for the remainder of the game they had the better of the play, they were not playing up to their usual form. Williams equalised for University shortly after the start of this spell, and within a few minutes the team were in the lead. Camp scoring a neat goal. Bollard narrowly missed scoring in the ensuing play. Wesley made strenuous efforts to even up matters, but they did not have the same finish as in the first spell, and the game ended without further score. Messrs. R. P. Staples and W. Keys were the referees.
