SENIOR A

WELLINGTON IN FORM

A return to form by Wellington gave them a 6-2 win over Huia, whose showing was not nearly as impressive as on the previous Saturday. Huia were sorely troubled during the greater part of the game by Wellington's aggressive tactics, which broke up their combination, and some indiscriminate hitting resulted. Although Huia were down 4-1 at the interval, on the whole they were providing good opposition, and in the second spej.l their backs improved considerably, llie forwards lacked finish, however, when opposed to Wellington's rearguard. The final score was a good indication of the run of the play. Wellington's display was in marked contrast to that against University. Ferguson scored the first goal for Wellington within three minutes of the commencement of play, stopping the ball from a corner and sending it into the net. Prentice also scored soon afterwards, capping a neat passing movement, and before half-time Burton and Eushbridge each netted. Huia's first score was registered by Wheatley, and came from a spirited breakaway initiated in the Wellington twentyfive. Brighter play was seen in the second spell, but Wellington were always on top. Ferguson scored a good goal after some tricky dribbling work by the forwards, and Rushbiidge brought the tally up to six goals with a neat reverse-stick shot. The second Huia goal was well deserved, but it appeared that after Cooper, centre forward, had hit the ball it was deflected into the net by Avery, a Wellington full-back. Messrs. S. B. Browne and C. Whyte controlled the game.
