Do New Zealand golfers take their game too seriously? If the American viewpoint is -correct, apparently they do, as witness the following extract' from the "San Francisco Chronicle": — "Last Sunday marked the first annual golf tournament in the Howard Automobile Company, which was held at the Millbrae Club with all masliie w-ield-ers of the local Buick-Pontiac organisation participating. Advertising Manager Jack H6rnell won both low gross and low net, defeating such formidable opponents as Eaton McMillan and Lin Hbward, who are said to be no slouches on the golf links. On investigation, however, we find that Jack had a few points in his favour, such as playing thg tournament on his .own club course and supervising the entire affair by being the handicap rcommittee, prize and trophy custodian, and official scorekeeper. In addition, he had Phil Cornyn coaching him on every shot, although Phil turned in a very miserable score himself. Jack says ho has been trying to win a prize at golf tournaments all his life, but without success. v In Jast ,Sunday's event hehad it fixed so he couldn't lose. For in addition to being an official of every committee, he had a prize for every participant." *
