Preparations for tho operation of the win-and-place' system of betting at the Auckland Eating Club's Autumn Meeting at Easter are being made at Ellerslic.
A small building that is to be used as ithe recording house for the investments on the win'machine is being erected near the scratching board at the fence that divides the lawn and .leger, ~: enclosures. There are two faces on the building, one showing to the.lawn andthe-Qtlier to the leger, and the win investments will be recorded manually on both. '

It is hoped that the machine will be converted at a later date to deal with all the win-and-place betting simultaneously under the electric system.
