QUESTIONS IN COMMONS

JAPANESE AIRCRAFT

(British Official Wireless.)

(Beceived March 28, 11.30 a.m.)

ETJGBY, -March 27. Points in the draft disarmament Convention, which was under discussion in Geneva today, were the subject- of ' House of Commons questions this afternoon.

Asked regarding the omission of Turkey from the list of European Powers mentioned in the effectives table of the Convention, Captain Eden said that he welcomed the opportunity of making the position clear, and replied^ "The greater part of "Turkish effectives are stationed outside Europe, as _ are our own, and for this reason neither the .Turkish figures nor our own appear in this particular list." Asked why the Convention allotted Japan, the same number of first-lin3 ah-craft as Britain, having regard to the much larger area and the population of the British Empire, the PrimeMinister pointed out that the figures in the, draft were inserted as a basis for discussion and negotiation. They did not cover the Dominions or India, which were separately represented at the Disarmament Conference.
