NAMESAKE TO OWNER

COLLECTS BIG DIVIDEND

A rather remarkable' clash of similar names was involved iu the sensational success of Chief Marionette at the Manawatu Meeting last week. The Mr. J. Macdonald who held £3 worth of the £fl invested on the win machine was neither the owner (Mr. K. J. Macdonald), nor a relative of either the owner or the trainer (Mrs. A. McDonald). »

Chief Marionette's owner, it is understood, had not a-penny on the filly the day it won, nor, as far as can be ascertained, had any member of the stable. The lucky holder of the three tickets is a well-known Ashhurst sportsman, a brother to the president of the Ashhuxst-Pohangina Racing Club'(Mr. R: Macdonald).

The motive activating Mr. Macdonald, the investor, to support the filly to the extent he did is not disclosed. Undoubtedly, as a few others.also.did, he recognised in the filly-the improver'of the field, and perhaps after forming this opinion he had his judgment1 further strengthened by the fact that his name was identical with the owner's, and alfo phonetically the siime as the trainer's.
