ORDERS FOR SYDNEY
The two former Kiccarton geldings, Counterplay and Manchu, who have been at Trentham for the past week or so au-aitiag shipment to Sydney, have been doing steady pacing on the plough tracks, and are looking in ■: good order. They are quartered at Mrs. Telford's stable, and are beipg ridden in work by G. Ridgway. Counterplay came north -with an unenviable reputation, but he is behaving himself at Trentham. He looks a youngster who may settle down to make a very useful performer. He is by Winning Hit from the Antagonist mare Counterscarp, and is thus a full-brother to Countermarch. Earjy- in the season he was in the Chokebore team, but waa purchased by Mr. E. Middleton, for whom he immediately won" a double at the' Dunedin Summer Meeting.
Manchu, who has not long been in from the paddock, and is still on the burly side, is an unraced three-year-old brown gelding by Tea Tray from the Vareo mare Halina, the dam of Lady Halina (dam of Compris), Solferite, Westbroke, and Best Friend, so he lacks nothing on the score of breeding. He is also owned by Mr. Middleton. '
