PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL
The Petone Borough Council met last night. The Mayor (Mr. D. McKenzie) presided, and there were also present Councillors V. A. Noble, V. E. Jacobson, A. Scholefield, E. T. E. Hogg, R. W. Toomath, J. Q. Burns, C. P. Brockelbank, ahd'J. W. Longman.
A request was received from the Petone Central School Ex-Scholars' Association for the council to decorate Jackson Street with bunting and coloured lights at Easter when the school's jubilee will be cele1 brated. The matter of the lights was referred to the Works Committee' with power to act. The council has practically no bunting. ,
The Petone Rugby Club offered two guineas for the use of the council committee room for its fortnightly winter meetings. On the motion of Councillor Brockelbank the offer was refused because it is the committee's policy to grant the room only to charitable, institutions.
The council accepted the invitation of the Rev. J. C. Loan to attend the morning service in St.XDavid's Presbyterian Church nest Sunday, which is being observed by the churches as a special day of prayer. An assurance was received from W. Cook and Sons, Ltd., that: the sawdust nuisance, concerning which complaints had. been.made by residents of Riddlers Crescent, had now been stopped, by the risk of special machinery to use all surplus shavings and sawdust. Councillors expressed their appreciation of the firm's action.
