VISITOR IN THE NIGHT
DEMAND FOR KEYS OF SAFE
[WOULD-BE ROBBER ESCAPES

DUNEDIN, This Day.
An attempted robbery under arms was made at Grant's store at Puerua
at 3 a.m. yesterday
In answer to knocks at the door of his residence, Mr. Grant opened the door, and was confronted by a man, who asked for petrol for his car. He was muffled about the face. Mr. Grant was proceeding to obtain the petrol when tho man produced a revolver, and, dazzling him with a powerful torch, demanded the keys of the safe. Mr. Grant knocked the man's hand aside and dashed into the house for a weapon. The intruder then retired hurriedly by car.
Later it was reported that a car had been removed from a garage at Balclutha during the night. It was found undamaged near the railway station.
