MR. FORBES GOES NORTH
DEFENDS ORDERS IN COUNCIL 1

AUCKLAND, This Day.
. The Prime Minister, with Mrs. Forbes and three members of their family, arrived by the Limited this afternoon, and immediately went to a luncheon: given in his honour- by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce.
The president, Mr. Harvey Turner, strongly urged that State and municipal trading concerns be placed on the sapie taxation basis as private- enterprises. ' ■ '. ■ . •
In his reply Mr. Forbes defended Orders in Council, -which ho said were inevitable under modern conditions. He described the response to the debt conversion appeal as magnificent. Mr. Forbes agreed that administrative economy was essential, but said that the people appeared to overlook what had/" been done, and that the- field for futui^ economics was restricted. ■ ■'■ ■ r
