CAR WINDOW BROKEN
"I entertain no doubt that the defendant was the person responsible for the breaking of this window," said Mr. E. Page, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court today when sentencing Archibald John Bryant, aged 30, to one month's imprisonment on a charge of committing mischief by.wilfully breaking a motor-car window. The accused, who had been four times previously convicted, maintained that all he had done was to examine the broken window.
Constable Deakin said in evidence that when he was on duty in Lambton Quay at 6.30 p.m. on Saturday he heard a crash of glass in Ballance Street, and saw the accused walking away from a motor-car. He accosted him and took him back to the car, and found that a window of one of the front doors liad been broken. While he was examining the car the accused made off, but was overtaken and arrested.
