BASKETBALL

WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION

The annual report of the Wellington Basketball Association reports a satisfactory year. There were 149 teams which competed-during 1932, and these included twenty-three from the Secondary Schools' Association.

The application of the age limit to the lowest grade did not show* the success expected, only two teams entering in the •eighth grade. This necessitated these teams being included in the seventh grade, and the eighth/grade competition lapsed. Wellington was represented at the New Zealand tournament at Ihvereargill in August, and although the team was not successful in winning the Kew Zealand Cup, many close games were played. The Wellington team scored the highest number of. goals during the tournamentWellington 214, as against Otago's (winners) 182.

The Annie Brown Cup (for runners-up) was won by Wellington. During the year the grounds committee, in conjunction with the Hataitai Tennis Club, again approached the Director of Reserves in the hope that by combined effort some progress could be made towards having the grounds made readj' for the 1933 season. It is regretted that this has not been possible. It wa^ unanimously decided at the ]ast annual meeting that the association should do its best to send a team to the Xew Zealand tournament, but, owing to the demands on the' income of the association, it was realised that it was not possible to donate any of the funds to this purpose, and that the expenses of any representative team would have to_ be raised by special efforts. A committee .consisting of JMesdames H. MeVicar, E. McPherson, and Misses E. Cochrane, A. Hennesey, L. Stufrock, M. Doherty, and M. E. Armstrong, was appointed to consider ways and means of raising money, and sufficient finance was raised to pay the full fares of the senior A and B representative teams.
