YACHT RACING

SPECIAL TROPHIES

EVANS BAY HANDICAPS

Trophies presented by outside clubs were raced for by the Evans Bay Yacht and Motor-boat Ciub in a light northerly breeze on Saturday afternoon. The principal event was the race for the Royal St. Kilda (Melbourne) Yacht Club's trophy, a general handicap for keel-yachts over a course of about ten and a half miles, from the clubhouse to the Somes Rock buoy, to the Datum Point buoy, and home. The Ailsa and the Wairere II staged an exciting finish, the former crossing the line only a. bowsprit ahead. The Romp and the Nanette were also well matched, only a second separating them at the finish. Corrected times placed the Wairere II first, the Viola second, and the Ailsa third.

The Betty led the Kio II home in the race for. the Akarana' (Auckland) Yacht Club's.trophy, open to JRoria-Jellicoe boats and first-class centreboarders, but on corrected times the prize went to the Advance, with the Diana second and "the Idono third.

In the race for the Canterbury Yacht and Motor-boat Club's trophy, which was a general handicap for second-class eentreboarders and 13ft and under boats, the Rob Roy was the first boat to finish, the Buzz being second across the line and the Damfino third. When the times were'adjusted, however, the llmin handicap given to the Buzz, combined with better handling, than usual, made her an easy first. The Tuppo, was placed second, and the Bob Roy third.
