UNIVERSITY BEAT MIDLAND
By a margin of twenty runs on the first innings University beat Midland on the Kilbirnie Reserve. The failure of several of Midland's usually reliable scorers against the steady University bowling was the main cause of the defeat, for Midland were not set a particularly hard task to pass their opponents' first innings total of 228.
When stumps were drawn on the first day Midland had 8 runs on with all their wickets intact. Tindill and Baker were the not-out batsmen, but the partnership did not survive long on Saturday, for Baker was dismissed in the first over of the day. Dustin bad a brief i stay at the crease, making 4, and then playing one from Dean to Osborn in the slips. The wickets fell fairly rapidly after thiit until the advent of Lawton stopped the rot. Tindill and Lawton took the score from 73 to 136, but shortly after, the tea adjournment Tindill, who had compiled 67," was stumped' by Paeey. Lawton contributed 43 before being bowled by TricklebanK, and Bryant's 32 enabled the side to make a better showing than at one 1 stage seemed probable.
Bowling.—Dean took five wickets for 71 runs, Stevens" two for 34, Tricklebank two for 42, Williams none-for 6, Caldwell none for 37, Blapdford none for 2.
