FIRE EXTINGUISHER BURSTS
POSTAL CLERK'S DEATH
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
HASTINGS, March 26.
Fatal injuries, caused by the explosion, of a patent fire extinguisher, were received by a clerk, William. David Kenny, aged 37-, on Saturday evening. The deceased was on duty in the mailroom of the Hastings Bost Office with two other clerks when, fire broke out in a small shed at the rear of the main building. The brigade was summoned, but in the meantime three men procured extinguishers.
Kenny bumped the extinguisher, a soda-acid type, on' the ground, apparently in an attempt to make it work, as he thought it had blocked. A slight trickle of liquid had just begun to issue from it when there was a loud explosion and a spurt of flame.
The deceased was sitting ou the floor at the time when the explosion occurred. He attempted to rise, but fell back, obviously in great agony. *
