DUNEDIN'S RATES

ANOTHER REDUCTION

UNIQUE POSITION

(By Telegraph.)

(Special to "The Evening Post.")

DUNEDIN, This Day.

The rate demand on city ratepayers for the coming year is less by £26,422 than last year's demand. This reduction follows one of over £29,000 last year, placing the DuSedin City Council in a unique position in local body government in New Zealand.

Eeporting to the City Council, the finance committee states "With respect to the year just closed, statements indicate that of the estimated income for the year of £214,933 the sum actually realised was £212,224, or £2700 short of the esitmate. On the expenditure side, however, the figures show that the policy followed during the year of close periodical examination of both income and outgo has enabled requirements to be met by a total expenditure of £204,437 as against the budgeted figure of £214,933, or a reduction for the year of £10,500. In so far; therefore, as the operations for the year just closed are concerned, the position can be regarded as eminently satisfactory." -
